How To Be Eco Friendly When Moving House in Putney

While it may be the last thing on your mind as you face the incredibly stressful time of moving house, considering the environment and your impact on the world’s ecology is vitally important for the future of the planet. The moving process can be hugely wasteful, as the event only happens once in a few years, and therefore you must be careful to ensure environmentally responsible removals in Putney, should you be about to move to south west London.

One of the great ways to be considerate of the earth when you are moving house is to plan ahead. Giving yourself time to breath means that you will be twice as considerate of your actions during the process as you would if you were in a rush. Make a decent list of everything that you need to get done, and start doing the smaller, less impacting jobs a good month or so in advance of the move. It may make your living arrangements slightly less comfortable for a few weeks, but it will be worth it for a smooth and stress free Putney move, which has less of an impact on the environment that it would usually.

Consider the packing materials that you use. Are your boxes made from recycled card, or are they even recyclable if they are new? Sustainable materials are very important in preventing the severe deforestation that goes on throughout the world, reducing the number of trees that are present to perform the vital photosynthesis that will convert deadly Carbon Dioxide into Oxygen. The best thing to do, both for your planet and your wallet, is to go around your friends and family and local shops to see if they have any packing boxes left from their previous moves. Even a few re-used boxes will reduce your impact on the environment, as well as saving you a few quid in the process! Avoid using bubble wrap where you can, often paper and tissue will work just as well. We are often tempted to use a lot of bubble wrap to protect our more precious items from getting broken during the move, but as a plastic, bubble wrap is often not recycled, and left in landfill sites which pollute the local ecological systems and damage the lives of wildlife in the area. If you need to make use of bubble wrap then be doubly sure that you take it not an appropriate recycling plant, do not just throw it in the bin!

Use your car as little as possible. Getting rid of your unwanted household items can be a pain, and it will be easier just to chuck things that you don’t want away. It is however, a great way to make some extra money if you can be bothered to auction off your extra stuff, either online of at a car boot sale. Losing all of this extra stuff will mean that you need less space in the van and therefore will make fewer extra trips. It may also mean that you use a smaller van, which will use less fuel in getting your items to the next house, and save you money in that way as well!

When you have settled in to your new house, be energy conscious, and make sure that you and your family turn off the lights when you leave the room, and only use heating when you really need to. Putting on a jumper can often save you a few quid in the long run!
